Derek is an associate whose practice focuses on
class action, securities and complex commercial
litigation. He is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law
School and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2006.
As a law student, he was awarded the Sir Jack Jacob
Prize in the Administration of Justice for his
first-standing in Osgoode's Class Action Seminar. In
his graduating year, he placed second in both the
Ontario Arnup Cup and the national Sopinka Cup as
a member of Osgoode Hall Law School's two-person
moot trial advocacy team.
Derek is a regular writer for the "Annual Survey of
Recent Developments in Civil Procedure,"
published annually in Watson and McGowan, Ontario
Civil Practice, where his writing focuses on recent
developments in law of class actions. Together with
Professor Garry D. Watson of Osgoode Hall Law
School, Derek is also the co-author of two articles on
special issues involved in the certification of class proceedings:
